Academic Programs

Established in 2016, the mission of the Department of Petroleum Engineering is to provide students with the education they need to become highly qualified engineers in the field of Petroleum Engineering. The four-year undergraduate program offers a flexible course, combining theory-based classes and practical training classes. Students can choose from a variety of electives according to their interests and are provided with access to multiple laboratories—including the reservoir simulation, drilling engineering, reservoir engineering, and production engineering laboratories—fully equipped with the latest machinery and software. Additionally, students have the unique opportunity to undergo summer internships in leading organisations in the field, such as the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Oil India Limited (OIL), Reliance Petroleum, the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), etc. With a faculty combining industry experts, researchers, and professors from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) all over the country, and interactive guest sessions by eminent persons from industry, the Department of Petroleum Engineering ensures that its students have the hands-on and theoretical knowledge they require to become excellent workers who can meet the growing demand in the petroleum and energy sectors, and skilled researchers who can contribute to the advancement of the sector.

Offering both undergraduate (B.Tech) and postgraduate (M.Tech and PhD) programs, the Department of Chemical Engineering aims to provide students with the extensive knowledge they need to be a part of the Energy Sector in the Indian Industrial space. The courses provided are a balanced mix of traditional areas—reaction engineering, thermodynamics, process control, etc.—and emerging areas—waste management, renewable energy, machine learning, nanoscience, etc.—of chemical engineering. Students are given hands-on experience with various simulation software (MATLAB, Aspen, Fluent), along with access to laboratories which have the latest equipment and machinery. The department faculty are involved in industrial consultancy and various sponsored involved in various research projects, particularly interdisciplinary ones, in collaboration with industry. The focus areas of this research in the department include distribution networks, energy storage, surface and plasma engineering, water treatment, machine learning, and pollution abatement, to name a few. With support from Indian PSUs in the oil and natural gas sectors (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL), etc.), the Department of Chemical Engineering continually strives to create an environment wherein students can not only learn, but also experience and implement; to become highly motivated individuals with the skill and knowledge required to make a difference in the Chemical Industry.

IIPE is offering Ph.D. Programme [Regular, Sponsored, Working Professionals and Individual Fellowship (i.e. CSIR/ UGC/ DBT/ ICMR/ INSPIRE etc.)] in various disciplines of Engineering, Technology and Science. The Institute provides facilities for research leading to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The award of the Ph.D. degree is made on the basis of satisfactory performance of a registered candidate in

• (i) Prescribed course work, comprehensive examination & seminar.
• (ii) Publication of original research work in reputed journals/conferences or award of patents/technology transfer etc.
• (iii) The thesis submitted by the candidate and a final viva voce. The thesis shall be the report of research work characterized by either discovery of new facts or a new interpretation of known facts and theory, or an independent design and development, or development of new instrument/technology.
