About

Established in 2016, the mission of the Department of Petroleum Engineering is to provide students with the education they need to become highly qualified engineers in the field of Petroleum Engineering. The four-year undergraduate program offers a flexible course, combining theory-based classes and practical training classes. Students can choose from a variety of electives according to their interests and are provided with access to multiple laboratories—including the reservoir simulation, drilling engineering, reservoir engineering, and production engineering laboratories—fully equipped with the latest machinery and software. Additionally, students have the unique opportunity to undergo summer internships in leading organisations in the field, such as the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Oil India Limited (OIL), Reliance Petroleum, the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), etc. With a faculty combining industry experts, researchers, and professors from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) all over the country, and interactive guest sessions by eminent persons from industry, the Department of Petroleum Engineering ensures that its students have the hands-on and theoretical knowledge they require to become excellent workers who can meet the growing demand in the petroleum and energy sectors, and skilled researchers who can contribute to the advancement of the sector.

Student Chapters and Achievements

AAPG Student chapter

American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) is a global organization that comprises a group of professionals and students. The original purpose of AAPG, to foster scientific research; to advance the science of geology, especially as it relates to petroleum, natural gas, other subsurface fluids, and mineral resources; to promote technology of exploring these materials in an economically and environmentally sound manner, and to inspire high professional conduct. The Student Chapters Program of AAPG plays a critical role by providing an avenue where undergraduate and graduate students can engage in meaningful networking opportunities, and connect with professionals, both inside and outside of academia. IIPE AAPG Student Chapter commenced during 2019-2020 academic session with chapter ID 10198223.

Various activities like Geoenvironments – A field seminar (a geological field trip for the students organized in association with Delta Studies Institute), Extended Abstract writing competition among the students were carried out in accordance with the bylaws of the chapter. All these events were highly successful among the students.

In addition, a case study competition (INVESTICASON), and virtual seminar on Career Opportunities in Petroleum Engineering in association with Petroleum Engineers Association was successfully organized.

SPE Student Chapter

Student chapters are located around the world and provide an operating framework for society activities at a university level. IIPE SPE Student Chapter with the vision of providing continuous personal and professional growth will bring the opportunity for students to organize and participate in technical and non-technical events, engage in technical discussions, network with industry professionals, and learn more about the oil & gas industry

SPE student chapter organized various events such as Virtual Panel Discussion, Talk On Career Opportunities, Quizophile, Virtual Seminar On “Future Opportunities in Oil and Gas Industry, Plantation Drive, National Conference on Advances in Petroleum Science and Technology
