Offering both undergraduate (B.Tech) and postgraduate (PhD) programs, the Department of Chemical Engineering aims to provide students with the extensive knowledge they need to be a part of the Energy Sector in the Indian Industrial space. The courses provided are a balanced mix of traditional areas—reaction engineering, thermodynamics, process control, etc.—and emerging areas—waste management, renewable energy, machine learning, nanoscience, etc.—of chemical engineering. Students are given hands-on experience with various simulation software (MATLAB, Aspen, Fluent), along with access to laboratories which have the latest equipment and machinery
The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 2016 to achieve the objectives of IIPE, i.e., providing skilled personnel for the Oil and Natural Gas industry.

This course covers both theoretical and practical aspects of CO₂ capture, focusing on adsorption-based separation processes.
Participants will gain hands-on experience using MATLAB and Aspen software for modeling and simulating CO₂ capture systems.

Hosted under the GIAN initiative, this course focused on "Next Generation Composite Membranes for Hydrogen Energy and Environmental Application." It aimed to deepen understanding of advanced membrane technologies aligned with NGCM.

Coordinated by Dr. Ravi Kumar Sonwani, this course explored circular economy technologies including bioenergy, biochar, and bioplastics. Foreign experts from NKUST, Taiwan, contributed significantly to the course.

Organized by IIPE's Chemical Engineering Dept, this international workshop covered key corrosion mitigation methods such as coatings, cathodic protection, and resistant materials. Experts from top Indian and global institutes participated.

This conference is the first in series of International Conference on Trends in Chemical, Energy and Environmental Engineering.Sustainability is the key mantra for equitable growth for very long periods of time. Sustainability is all pervasive, and finds its place in chemical processing, energy harnessing, mineral exploration, material development and all related technologies. Product and process development, simulation and modelling have added new dimensions to research in these fields. Responsibility of ensuring that the advancements are environmentally benign, while improving the health and wellbeing of all citizens is on academicians, scientists and industry professionals. In this context, an international conference on chemical, energy and environmental engineering is planned to provide a platform for comprehensive dissemination of knowledge and exchange of ideas in related fields among the academicians, scientists and industry professionals.

Focused on advanced CCUS techniques and hands-on training, this workshop promoted academic-industry collaboration on technologies for achieving India's net-zero carbon goals.
Placement has been one of the salient features and core strengths of the department of chemical engineering at IIPE. Special focus has been laid on strengthening of the core compatibility of our students to make industry ready especially in fields of oil and gas, refining etc. which led to significant amount of our students being placed in prestigious PSUs such as HPCL, GAIL, IOCL, HRRL, Oil India, Joint ventures of PSUs such as HMEL. The department has achieved record placement percentages for the batches of 2023, 2024 and 2025- 97.2%, 100% and 95.8% respectively.
